This head of hair has been a piece of art for a while now. We have been through a color correction to going lighter and lighter and now giving this beaut a more natural look. So I created the look of a balayage. but in a reverse application method. I love a good hair project! This process took close to 7 hrs to complete. They're multiple steps I needed to take to give her this seamless most natural looking finish. As you can see in the before photo below she was a warm buttery blonde which was 6 months old. It was time for a change, a hair color with even less maintenance. How could we resist? Below are the steps and products we used in the process as well as a short video demonstration. If your looking for a change or beautiful hair come see me @salonnova.  #TEAMEMANDA

  • First Emily applied a very precise single application ( using Wella Professional hair color) at this time we had to lift her natural regrowth as well as deposit and fill color into the existing blonde hair
  • When color was finished developing we rinsed, shampooed and conditioned with Cezanne , then blow dried the hair
  • Next we mixed up an accent shade and highlight formula with Olaplex of coarse
  • Applied  ( reference in video below)
  • Developed, rinsed, Olaplex No. 2
  • Then we Applied toner and a few touches of pink
  • Developed, shampooed and conditioned with Cezanne
  • Blown dry with R & CO Park Ave blow dry balm which is amazing on all textures by the way. And a bit of Kevin Murphy 's Young Again serum on the ends.
  • Finished with Kevin Murphy's Damage Manager and the Bellami curling wand and a mist of R & Co Flexible hair spray.

I am totally obsessed with my new Nikon Coolpix camera. All the pictures and video taken for this topic was shot and filmed with the Nikon Coolpix. I could not have created such a brilliant share and tutorial with out the most amazing people by my side @salonnova. I want to thank Tess, Rachael, Angelica, and Heather for all of your hard work and assistance through this FUN process. This process took place at Salon NOVA on Tuesday. We were able to really have fun and share our passion for hair together, since we had a quiet morning thanks to the snowy day. My beautiful model Allison had requested for something new. We had conversed over a few picture and decided we want something edgy but yet pretty and soft. I believe leaving a root with depth and a bit of dimension will give you that soft pretty finish apposed to lightening the root. This it self is an art, which you will view in the video below when I create almost a dread lock effect while the lightener is on the hair. We used a combination of different products through the process. I got to try the new Instamatic's from Wella in the shade Ocean Storm. This is truly a master piece and one of its kind. Customized Hair color. #LOVE #CREATIVEHAIRDRESSING #TEAMNOVA

So excited about this new product!! Wella Professional have been creating innovative products and tools for quite some time.  This being one of the reasons why I love that we use their color line at Salon NOVA. Most recently Wella created a product called Freelights, which is what I used in the video below. I believe this product launches March 1st on the east coast. But we received a sample to try at the salon.  A Wella educator is coming out to Salon NOVA on March 2nd. They will be teaching us Wella's 2015 trends. They will also share about the new product Freelights which is used to create Balyage as well as Instamatic's by Colortouch this is a demi permanent hair color with beautiful matte muted hues.  They are similar to fashion shades, and pastels, but with a little more mystery.  If your interested in getting a new look for spring, curious or want to share an experience about these products comment below or contact Salon NOVA for an appointment.

Dry Hair cutting with  cordless clipper

This technique is so fun!! I can achieve the results I want in less time and with more accuracy. Emily's hair is very thick and coarse, the perfect texture for this technique. If I  would have chosen to use my dry cutting shears I would need to take much smaller sections or the hair would get pushed with the shear leaving a very inconsistent cut. As you can see in the video I am able to cut length as well as texturize the hair. A perfect combination for this cute pixie. I am so thankful to work with an assistant who allows me to be creative with her hair, and an amazingly talented team at Salon NOVA. We reek of passion and I believe a lot of salons lack that these days. So if your looking for a new stylist with true skill and talent you can find us Salon NOVA. I hope everyone has a beautiful weekend filled with love. Happy Valentines Day. XO AG

Tools used
  • Wahl Lithium Cordless clipper
  • Y.S. park comb

going lighter??

This lovely lady came in to me a few weeks ago on a search for a stylist who could get her to the shade of blonde she was looking for. She had gotten highlights from another stylist but was not satisfied.  We scheduled her service after an in depth consultation. I informed her that we might not get her to the exact shade desired in one session. Needless to say I was very pleased with our results. One more round and she'll be at her final result. The transition to lighter doesn't have to be boring. We can morph into something new each service with little tweaks here and there and eventually you'll feel like a new person.

the process...

  • First I gave her a dry hair cut
  • Next I lightened her hair with Wella soft blonde and Olaplex
  • Process, then rinse and apply Olaplex No. 2 at shampoo bowel
  • Blast dry, before applying toner and foils
  • I foiled just regrowth area, then applied toner in between foils
  • Process, rinse, apply Olaplex No. 2, Then shampooed and conditioned with Cezanne
  • I towel dried hair, then used Cezanne leave in conditioner and Argan styling serum before blow drying.  Tools I used for blow dry were Kevin Murphy Curl brush and Ergo Twin turbo blow dryer.
  • Finished with Cezanne perfect finish, and flat ironed with my Ergo flat iron
