@amanda.j.giordanoIt all started when I received my diploma from preschool. My preschool teacher wrote on my certificate of completion that I was going to be a hairdresser to the stars. 20 some years later, and with a grandfather who was a barber and owned a barber shop in the 1940's, its in our blood line. and now with almost 10 years experience in this amazing industry.
Here is my story... As a child I was always interested in anything beauty. During the summer when I was off school I would move my vanity out side on our walk way to the front door of our home. I had an out door nail salon. I would do all of the girls nails in my development. We would have so much fun. Even know I was such a tom boy in my appearance, I was oozing with creativity. I was always involved with some sort of art class. I especially loved using pastels. As I grew older I started experimenting with makeup, styling and cutting my hair. I did some very odd things with my hair. I thought I looked so hot. When I look back definitely not! I'm sure you can relate. Eventually I discovered they provide the students with a tour of the Technical school. When touring the Tech school I knew instantly that I had to get my Cosmetology education there. I had the option to attend Technical school in high school. I moved around a lot, but then finally I had some stability and started attending Spring-ford in 9th grade. By 11th Grade I was all set up to start the Cosmetology course at the Western Montgomery Career and Technology Center in Limerick PA. I am so grateful for the exceptional education I received. My educators Mrs. Richert and Ms. Kalin were the best teachers!! They taught me all the fundamentals of Cosmetology which lead me to building my tool box of education and knowledge today. By the end of the course I had received all my hours to apply for my temporary Cosmetology licence and graduate high school at the same time. Once I received my temporary license I started working at a local five chair salon. This is where I learned reception, assisting, shampooing, daily duties, and sponging off anyone I could learn from. Then I took my State boards written and practical test, and received my cosmetology license. I started taking clients and experiencing life behind the chair. I began to build a book, A few years went by and I found my self in the manager position of this local salon. At this point I learned all about the responsibilities of running a salon. I leaned everything from payroll to ordering supplies from our beauty distributors. I started to build relationships with the sales representatives from the distributors we ordered our supplies from. Which lead me into the discovery of the demand for educators for Aloxxi International, this is the hair color line we carried at the salon. So I auditioned over Skype with one of Aloxxi's directors of education. I was so nervous!! I had to prepare a presentation including specific guild lines from Aloxxi. I had used the color line for almost six years and I felt like I had mastered the line. I was so excited to share what I have discovered with new users. A few days after the Skype audition I received a phone call informing me that I had been chosen as one of the new Aloxxi Advisors. I was ecstatic!! The following week I was flown out to West Hollywood for our first Aloxxi Creative training. All expenses paid. To be continued... |
